REPORT: Trump Quietly Backing Incumbent Ronna McDaniel for RNC Chair

With Friday’s vote for the Republican National Committee chair rapidly approaching, President Trump and his team are privately whipping up support for incumbent Ronna McDaniel, according to a report in the Associated Press.

The Associated Press writes:

Trump hasn’t made a public endorsement, but he and his team are privately advocating for McDaniel, whom he tapped for the position shortly after his 2016 victory. Still, many Trump loyalists blame McDaniel, the niece of Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, for some of the party’s recent struggles.
In an interview, [Harmeet] Dhillon insisted that the overwhelming majority of Republican voters want a leadership change at the RNC. She warned of serious political consequences for any of the committee’s 168 elected members who support McDaniel’s reelection.

The news is likely to irk some of Trump’s supporters, many of whom support upstart Harmeet Dhillon or MyPillow CEO and MAGA stalwart Mike Lindell for the top spot at the RNC.

Earlier this week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appears to have revealed his favorite in the race for RNC Chair: McDaniel’s Chief rival Harmeet Dhillon.

“I think we need a change, I think we need to get some new blood in the RNC,” DeSantis said. “I like what Harmeet Dhillon has said about getting the RNC out of DC […] We need some fresh thinking.”
