Late night talk show hosts Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel made jokes about President Joe Biden after news broke that classified government documents were found in locations associated with the president.
ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel suggested the idea of having former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden sharing a jail cell which would be streamed live to the public on a 24/7 basis.
“Maybe we put it on C-SPAN, too. Maybe if they start feeling attracted to each other we put it on Bravo, I don’t know,” Kimmel said. “We put them in there until they either choke each other out or make friends.”
Kimmel acknowledged that he was not aware of the exact number of documents that were found, but joked that they were not in the place they were supposed to be. He also referred to President Joe Biden as a “forgetful senior” and joked that the documents could be anywhere, including in the president’s knapsack and pill organizer.
On his NBC show, Seth Meyers also made jokes about President Joe Biden’s age in reference to the documents found, in light of the president’s statement that he was surprised they were found and was unsure of the information they contained.
“Ah, yes, the old grandpa caught shoplifting maneuver,” Meyers said before moving on to an impersonation mocking an elder. “What’s that, there’s something in my pocket—Charleston Chew? How could that happen?”
He then made a quip, saying that Biden believes everyone knows he takes classified documents and information seriously, even the aliens at Area 51.
CBS late night host Stephen Colbert took a different approach from Kimmel and Meyers, by defending President Joe Biden’s alleged mishandling of secret materials. On his Tuesday night show, Colbert argued that there was “no comparison” between the Biden documents and the “transparently nefarious behavior” of former President Donald Trump.
“They’re not the same, OK?” Colbert joked. “It’s comparing apples to orange-man.”
James Corden was hardest on Biden, saying, “I don’t know how I feel about this, I really, really don’t so I’ll just agree with this top authority who has decades of national security experience.”
