Anheuser-Busch Gives Away Free Bud Light in Act of Desperation

Anheuser-Busch, the beer industry leader, is attempting to repair its association with Bud Light distributors who received negative feedback from customers following the brand’s collaboration with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Last month, the beer producer sparked controversy by commemorating Dylan Mulvaney’s “365 Days of Girlhood” through the distribution of custom-made cans featuring the influencer’s likeness. As a consequence, in-store sales of Bud Light experienced a decline of 26% during the week that concluded on April 22, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Moreover, the beer industry leader witnessed a reduction in its market value by $5 billion in recent weeks.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the largest brewery in the country is endeavoring to mend its relationship with wholesale distributors who have been affected by the controversial collaboration in order to recover from the financial losses and the harm to its reputation.

As per reports, the corporation intends to allocate additional funds towards promoting Bud Light by launching fresh advertising campaigns. Additionally, they will give a complimentary case of Bud Light to every employee of wholesale distributors.

Anheuser-Busch is taking steps to alleviate some of the negative reaction that wholesalers have encountered by providing them with a letter intended for retailers. The letter aims to clarify any misunderstandings about the Mulvaney partnership.

“This can is not a formal campaign or advertisement,” the letter reads. “Our new Vice President of Bud Light and all of us at Anheuser-Busch are committed to reminding all of our consumers why they love Bud Light and why they’ve made it the #1 beer in America.”

Although the Mulvaney cans were solely intended for promotion on social media and were never meant to be sold, wholesalers have informed the WSJ that some customers were under the mistaken impression that the cans were available for purchase or that Mulvaney had been featured in a television advertisement promoting the product.
