‘You Have Violated Your Constitutional Obligation’: Abbott Blasts Biden In Scathing Letter During Border Visit

On Sunday, President Joe Biden finally made a trip down to the border in El Paso, Texas as thousands of migrants flock over the border each day. To meet him there was Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) with a letter that he hand-delivered to the president.

“Hand-delivered a letter to President Biden today during his first visit to the border,” the governor wrote on Twitter. “His trip is $20 billion too little & 2 years too late. I’m calling on Biden to do his constitutional duty to protect our nation.”

“Your visit avoids the sites where mass illegal immigration occurs and sidesteps the thousands of angry Texas property owners whose lives have been destroyed by your border policies.” the letter began. “Even the city you visit has been sanitized of the migrant camps which had overrun downtown El Paso because your Administration wants to shield you from the chaos that Texans experience on a daily basis. This chaos is the direct result of your failure to enforce the immigration laws that Congress enacted.”

“Under President Trump, the federal government achieved historically low levels of immigration,” it continued. “Under your watch, by contrast, America is suffering the worst illegal immigration in the history of our country. Your open-border policies have emboldened the cartels, who grow wealthy by trafficking deadly fentanyl and even human beings.”

“Texans are paying an especially high price for your failure, sometimes with their very lives, as local leaders from your own party will tell you if given the chance,” the governor stated in reference to multiple instances where Democrat local officials have declared states of emergencies in response to the growing threat of mass illegal immigration.

In December, El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser (D) issued a state of emergency in response to the hundreds of migrants flooding into his city and sleeping on the city streets, according to the Texas Tribune.

“All of this is happening because you have violated your constitutional obligation to defend the States against invasion through faithful execution of federal laws,” the Texan wrote in reference to Article 1 Section 10 Clause 3 of the Constitution. “Halfway through your presidency, though, I can finally welcome you to the border. When you finish the photo-ops in a carefully stage-managed version of El Paso, you have a job to do.”

President Biden has never been to the border during his presidency, this is the first time that he has done so since he took office in January 2021.

The Texas governor then laid out a number of policy points that would need to be enacted for a safer and more secure border.

Those policies include detaining migrants and not releasing them into the country, keeping the Remain-in-Mexico policy and continuing to enforce Title 42, prosecuting illegal entry between ports of entry, resuming the construction of the border wall, and designating the Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations.

Gov. Abbott then concluded his letter by offering one final plea for Americans everywhere: “On behalf of all Americans, I implore you: Secure our border by enforcing Congress’s immigration laws.”
