Former Trump National Security Advisor John Bolton told “Good Morning Britain” he plans to challenge Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
In a clip tweeted out Friday morning, “Good Morning Britain” reports, “John Bolton has exclusively told ‘Good Morning Britain’ he wants to become the next president of the United States.”
In the clip, John Bolton detailed what an America under his presidency would look like, claiming, “I would get in to win the nomination. And I would do it primarily on the basis that we need a much stronger foreign policy.”
Bolton then described his approach to foreign policy: “I think it is important that it is understood, not just in Moscow, but is understood in places like Beijing — that unprovoked aggression against your neighbors is not something the United States and its allies will tolerate.”
Bolton hinted at a 2024 Presidential run last month, telling NBC’s “Meet The Press” he would “seriously consider getting in” if the situation was right. Indeed, earlier this week he tweeted, “Campaign 2024 is already underway, so aspiring candidates should be questioned closely on how they would handle Beijing’s belligerence. This is not an election to allow national security to be obscured by purely domestic concerns. Too much is at stake.”
He also attacked Trump on Twitter on Thursday, attacking what he perceived to be an unwelcome isolationist tendency among Trump and Trumpian Republicans.
In turn, Trump famously called John Bolton one of the “dumbest” people he has ever worked with in government.
“What would Bolton, one of the dumbest people in Washington, know? Wasn’t he the person who so stupidly said, on television, ‘Libyan solution’, when describing what the U.S. was going to do for North Korea? I’ve got plenty of other Bolton ‘stupid stories’” Trump tweeted in December 2020.
As such, Trump and Bolton do not have a great relationship. Indeed when “Good Morning Britain,” asked about Trump’s influence within the Republican Party, Bolton replied, “I think Trump’s support within the party itself is in terminal decline.”
When pressed 0n his lack of experience, Bolton told Good Morning Britain, “Well, I wouldn’t run as a vanity candidate. If I didn’t think I could run seriously then I wouldn’t get in the race.”
The 2024 race is heating up and the American people are looking forward to what is sure to be an interesting contest.
