Presidential candidate and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has proposed dealing with the Mexican drug cartels by using military force.
“When it comes to the cartels, the Mexican president said yesterday we don’t want the U.S. to do anything,” Haley said during a conversation at the Bastion Institute during a trip last week to Iowa.
“Well, you know what? You tell the Mexican president, either you do it or we do it. But we are not going to let all of this lawlessness continue to happen,” she continued.
“And we can do that by putting special ops in [Mexico], by doing cyber, by really being strategic. Just like we dealt with ISIS, you do the same thing with the cartels,” she added.
Haley’s comments come shortly after a group of Americans were abducted and some killed by a cartel in Mexico.
As reported by the Associated Press, “the four Americans crossed into Matamoros from Texas so that one of them could have cosmetic surgery. Around midday, they were fired on in downtown Matamoros and then loaded into a pickup truck. A Mexican woman, Areli Pablo Servando, 33, was also killed, apparently by a stray bullet.”
