On Tuesday night, President Joe Biden delivered his State of the Union Address to a Joint Session of Congress while the American public watched across the country.
Throughout his speech, the president focused on his “accomplishments” and attempted to give lip service to some of the issues that he has ignored throughout his past two years in office.
According to a minute-by-minute breakdown of Biden’s speech by CNN, the president emphasized the economy and infrastructure more than any other topic.
The president spent eight minutes and 57 seconds on health care, six minutes 56 seconds on the economy, six minutes 13 seconds on policing, and six minutes 13 seconds on infrastructure.
The 80-year-old president spent four minutes and 49 seconds on veterans, four minutes and one second on taxes, three minutes and 16 seconds on jobs, and three minutes and 10 seconds on Medicare and Social Security. These eight primary talking points were the building blocks of Biden’s speech and topics that he would say hold his biggest accomplishments.
It is what Biden didn’t talk about as much, however, that should really be the focus of where Biden is lacking.
One of the smallest parts of Biden’s speech was possibly his greatest failure: the crisis at the southern border.
Biden only spent one minute and seven seconds of his speech on immigration and making matters worse, he spent a shocking eight seconds talking about the opioid and fentanyl crisis plaguing America.
Additionally, he only spent one minute 46 seconds on China which just a few days prior had been flying a spy balloon over the continental United States.
Other topics that the president covered include guns (2 minutes 10 seconds), Covid-19 (two minutes 38 seconds), the war in Ukraine (one minute 58 seconds), energy and climate policy (two minutes), democracy around the world (one minute 57 seconds), education (one minute 49 seconds), the federal deficit (one minute 40 seconds), LGBTQ+ issues (26 seconds), child care (15 seconds), and abortion (49 seconds).
It is clear that President Biden is continuing to downplay the crisis at the southern border and would rather have the American people forget about one of the biggest failures in his presidency.
